In brief

Head to Pokhara to live with other volunteers in a local family homestay and volunteer on a women’s empowerment programme, dedicated to helping local women to learn new skills. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore Nepal, home of the iconic Himalayan mountain range, and to meet the friendly people who live there.

The support needed: In Nepal, education is valued highly, but due to poverty, many women must drop out of school at a young age and this often means that their career prospects are limited. As a volunteer you can help address this issue and get involved in initiatives that are created in partnership with local women.

What you will do: As a volunteer, you will work with women living in rural areas to help them to improve their basic English and maths. Typically, you will be working with small groups of women or 1-1. You can also get involved in running workshops that over topics like health, crafts, finance and IT. All initiatives are developed in partnership with local women to provide them with skills that are useful.

The workshops are fun, sociable and aimed to address topics that local women want to learn more about. The women enjoy meeting volunteers from around the world and will welcome you with lots of enthusiasm.
