Exciting variety
Join us on the frontlines of conservation, where you’ll assist with the remarkable impact of our projects on South Africa’s wildlife. From wildlife research to animal rehabilitation, you will see and work with a huge variety of animals. Your daily work will range from the care of orphaned rhinos to monitoring a lion pride, providing you with new skills and knowledge as you explore the wilderness of South Africa.
As you journey between projects, you’ll work with many different local professionals dedicated to preserving their homes. This is also a unique opportunity to collaborate with renowned conservation giants like WWF and the Endangered Wildlife Trust. Don’t miss this chance to be part of something truly extraordinary!
In-country support
Ensuring traveller safety and giving their families back home peace of mind is our top priority. We have a dedicated team based in South Africa that personally greets and assists you as soon as you get off the plane at Johannesburg Airport. While you are in destination, we will provide you with around-the-clock support, through our dedicated 24/7 mobile number for our in-country team.
We take extensive precautions, including detailed emergency response procedures for each location, and only use accredited travel and transfer partners. These procedures are continually reviewed and updated, and thanks to our experienced staff and safety measures, we have an exemplary track record for traveller safety.
Your customisable itinerary
The program can be completely customised to create your perfect gap year experience, but to give you an idea…
Week 1 at Moholoholo: Gain hands-on experience caring for a diverse range of African wildlife species, at one of Africa’s largest and most established animal rehabilitation centres.
Week 2 at Vikela Kruger: Help vital conservation efforts in the renowned Greater Kruger National Park, such as rhino data collection and lion tracking alongside local experts.
Week 3 at Care For Wild Africa: Help save baby rhinos at the world’s largest rhino rehabilitation centre, who have been victims of the poaching crisis.
Week 4 & 5 at Phinda: Participate in wildlife research and management at the famous Phinda Private Game Reserve, aiding experts in monitoring key species.
To any potential volunteers thinking about it, do it! It’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my life, and you might even make friends for life.
