In brief

Gain your Level 1 CSIA ski instructor qualification in Whistler and then teach children to ski for the rest of the season.

As a qualified instructor you can expect to work full time throughout the season, earn good money and really boost your CV.

Looking after other people’s children on a mountain is one of the most responsible things you could do on your gap year!

During the first 3 weeks of the season you will be trained by some of the best ski instructors in the world. Their job is to get you used to all that Whistler Blackcomb can offer in terms of terrain and to get you through the CSIA Level 1 exam, which takes place at the end of week 3.

By mid-December you will be a qualified instructor (we have a 100% first time pass rate on this course) and will be employed to teach at Whistler Kids – the snow school for children aged 3-11. You can then expect to work on average 5 days per week for the rest of the season (until mid-April)

Throughout the season you will be fully supported by our experienced destination manager in the UK and our representatives who live and work in Whistler and previously participated in the programme.

Our programme starts in mid-November when you will fly out to Vancouver. As an ATOL bonded company, we can book your flights so that you arrive with the rest of the group.

After a nights’ rest in a city hostel, we will assist you with organising your Social Insurance Number before transferring you to Whistler for our thorough orientation. Accommodation at Whistler staff housing is pre-arranged by Oyster so you can be confident that there will be a bed waiting for you (accommodation is at a real premium in Whistler!).

During our orientation we will give you a tour of the village, assist with setting up bank accounts, mobile phones and ski equipment. Also included on this programme are regular monthly meet ups and activities such as bowling, ice-skating and escape rooms! This is great fun and a really good opportunity to get to know your fellow Oyster instructors and teammates working in other departments.

To be eligible for this programme, you need to be a confident skier and have experience working with children. We can give you advice on how to get this experience if there are any gaps.

We recommend booking your place as soon as possible to allow time to secure a work permit and to gain any extra experience that you might need!
