Gap years in North America

North America is a huge and diverse continent offering countless opportunities to those on a gap year.

The continent boasts some of the world’s most exciting cities and iconic scenery which are all well worth exploring.

We’ve given Central America its own section but included the Caribbean here. It comprises more than 700 islands and generally form island arcs that delineate the eastern and northern edges of the Caribbean Sea. Coffee, beans, bananas and sugar, everyone has had a taste of this region. Why not visit it?

North America offers lots of possibilities for working or volunteering on your gap year too, and it’s a great way to immerse yourself in the culture.

You can live the American dream by spending your summer working in LA or NYC. Or why not explore the wildness of the Western states by doing some voluntary conservation work in the National parks?

The Caribbean is a distinct region rich in coral seas. It includes, the Bahamas,  the Greater Antilles-home to Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti & Domican Republic – and Lesser Antilles (inc.Montserrat,Barbados, Antigua)

Alternatively you could make a difference by working as a counsellor on a summer camp in the USA which offers a uniquely American experience.

In Canada, you could take to the slopes for a ski season, gain mountain leadership skills or work in one of the Metropolitan cities.

Or perhaps you could volunteer in Mexico or learn to dive in the Caribbean.

The variety on offer makes North America a great destination for a gap year and has the potential offer you some enjoyable, memorable and life-changing experiences that will be with you forever.

There truly is, something for everyone
